Cardiology Services at SVS
- Holter and event monitoring
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Pacemaker implantation
- Therapeutic and diagnostic cardiovascular catheterization
- Occlusion of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA)
- Balloon valvuloplasty for pulmonic stenosis
- Electrical cardioversion of atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter*
*Restoration of sinus rhythm, for patients suffering from atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter, is now available at SVS. Sinus rhythm is restored via transthoracic biphasic cardioversion during a brief anesthetic period. Patients experience improved quality of life and myocardial function with restoration and maintenance of sinus rhythm. Electrical cardioversion is safe and highly effective, however, it is not widely available in most areas because of the specialized equipment and expertise required.
SVS is excited to bring interventional cardiology to the Southwest Florida Veterinary Community! Interventional cardiology (IC) utilizes fluoroscopy and specialized vascular catheters to access the heart and great vessels for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. IC provides minimally invasive and effective treatment options for many congenital heart diseases (e.g. PDA, pulmonic stenosis). In addition, IC facilitates the diagnosis of complex cardiovascular malformations that cannot be diagnosed with other imaging modalities. The advantages of interventional cardiology are the minimization of scars and pain as well as a shorter recovery time.
